Miller-Valentine building $25M center in South Carolina - Atlanta Business Chronicle:
The Dayton-based real estate company, which has offices in Cincinnatiand Columbia, is building a 465,000-square-foot distribution facility for Atlanta-basedc (NYSE: HD). The $25 million regionak distribution center will serve 150 storesa in South and North Tennessee and partsof Georgia. It will allows Home Depot to offer a greatet variety of products in eachindividuapl store. Kurt Eyring, vice president of construction with said the building has an aggressivs timetablefor completion, only 28 He said the company’sx experience allows it to build the massivd structure so quickly.
“In a project like this, we will be pourintg footers, standing wall panels and puttinfg on a roof all at thesame time,” Eyrinbg said in a news release. The tilt-uop concrete building will include 171 dock doorssand 18,000 square feet of office The building will cover 11 acres underd its roof. The distribution centerf is expected to employ approximately 300 people onceit opens. The new centerr is a part of a 290-acrse master-planned development in Lexington County. Southy Carolina has been a growth market for In January, the firm announced it had begun construction on a 176,000-square-foo t distribution center in the state and alreaduy had landed its first anchor tenant.
Last year, the company complete d a 150,000-square-foot speculative industrial buildingin Orangeburg, S.C. Miller-Valentinee has several divisions including commercial andresidential construction, propertyh leasing and property management.

Veolia Transportation Service loses local bus service contracts - Washington Business Journal:
Fairfield, Calif.-based MV Transportation won the competitive bid in Herndon and Lorton to operate the bus lines. Gainesville, Texas-based Forsythwe Transportation won a contract from Arlington to operaterthe ART, which provides transit services in Arlington and GEORGE transit systems, whicj provides transit for Falls Church, startinvg July 1. Lorton’s contract kicks in Aug. 26 and startsw soon after in Herndon. Veolia submitteed a notice with Virginia, sayinyg that 501 of its employees would be affectexd as a result of thecontract losses, but a spokeswoman said she thinksd their employees will most likely be picked up by the incominf companies holding the contracts.
Forsythe and MV could not be reachedf for comment on whether they will be taking on Veolia’s employees, but MV recentlty put up several job postings on Web sites for open positionw in the area.

The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 9 percenfin May, up from 8.1 percent in the department reported Monday. April’s 0.6-poingt decrease in unemployment now appears with the May increase part of an upward trenr datingto mid-2008, state officials Approximately 272,000 Missourians were estimated to have been joblessa during the month of May. Nonfarm payroll employmeng decreasedby 3,700 jobs in May, marking the smallesrt monthly decrease since employment began to drop sharpl in November.
Job losses were concentrated inmanufacturinh (3,700) and construction (1,600), which were partly offset by gains in health care and social assistance and local government (900). Durinf the past year, employmenyt dropped by 74,300 jobs, or 2.7 percent. The main exceptions to the downward trend in the past year have been private educationaoservices (2,500), health care and social assistancd (6,000), federal government (2,700) and locapl government (3,300). The national unemployment rate in Maywas 9.
